The collections are therefore wide-ranging and include a large group of social history material relating to domestic, community and working life of the area, with particular focus on the coal and iron mining industries, local maritime history and Whitehaven pottery. There are also large geology collections, some natural history, archaeology, fine and decorative art featuring work by local artists and a large photographic collection, all supported by other archive material.
