The archives hold important material on many local companies, including the Lilleshall Company, the Coalbrookdale Company, the Horsehay Company, the Maws Tile Works and Craven Dunnill. There is also important material on Captain Webb and the Darby family, and a significant collection of maps and plans.

The Telford collection includes manuscripts, books, prints, drawings, paintings and photographs relating to the life and works of Thomas Telford. The Labouchere Archive documents the work of the Coalbrookdale Company including Abraham Darby's ledger of accounts for building the Iron Bridge. It also includes Darby family papers, pedigrees, and journals giving a social history of Quakerism, including the spread of the movement to the Americas.

Grade II. The library and archive is housed on the second floor of the Long Warehouse building at the Museum of Iron.
Collections Overview
The library is a significant resource for any study of the Gorge or of the life and industries associated with it. It encompasses the largest collection devoted to Thomas Telford outside London, the original Coalbrookdale Institute Library, the unique Elton Collection, and an extensive photographic collection. The archives include original material associated with most local companies, and there is important material associated with Captain Webb and with the Darby family.

The library and archive does not display material other than in the museums' public displays, but the collection is available for study purposes.
