Collections Overview
Catalyst aims to inform people about the history of the chemical industry and how the products of chemistry are used in every day life. It is the only UK museum wholly devoted to this theme and is located in Halton, which has been a major centre of the chemical industry for 150 years. The collections range from a 14-ton chlorine rail tanker to parts of a chemical plant and smaller objects and archives including a large photographic collection depicting the local area and industry of Halton.
Display Overview
There are four interactive galleries with over 100 different exhibits. The scenic glass lift gives access to the rooftop observatory where visitors can access the photographic collection using the Ibase system and also enjoy the panoramic views across Cheshire.
