Description
The collection comprises oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints ranging in date from the 18th century to the present day. The majority of the work is by artists associated with the Newlyn School of Painting, c. 1880-1930. Significant artists represented include Percy Craft; F M Evans; Alexander S Forbes; Elizabeth Forbes; Norman Garstin; Edwin Harris; Harold Knight; Laura Knight; Walter Langley; J Henry Martin; John Miller; Ernest Procter; Charles Simpson; and Ralph Todd.
The two most well-known paintings in the collection are 'The Rain It Raineth Every Day' by Norman Garstin; and 'School is Out' by Elizabeth A Forbes.
The print collection is mainly topographical, but includes prints by fine artistis such as Elizabeth A Forbes, Laura Knight and E Bouverie Hoyton.
There are only three pieces of sculpture, a bronze by Barbara Tribe; and two stone relief carvings by Rosamund Fletcher, all dating from the 1930s.
