Collections Overview
The majority of the collections relate to the social and industrial history of Chesterfield and the surrounding area of North Eastern Derbyshire. These collections includecoal mining, engineering and an extensive collection od locally made stoneware pottery (Bramptonware). The museum holds a collection of packaging and healthcare products made by local firm, Robinson & Sons, who made the original 'Smartie Tube' and were the first manufacturers of the disposable nappy. There is a small collection relating to George Stephenson and his family. Work by local artist, Joseph Syddall is usually on show in the art gallery. A range of archaeological items associated with excavations in the town centre are held, mainly associated with the area of the Roman Fort and the core of the medieval period town.
