Building Information
The collections are presented in the Lottery-funded New Art Gallery by Caruso St. John, completed in 2000.
Collections Overview
The collections focus on the outstanding Garman Ryan collection assembled by the artist Jacob Epstein's widow Kathleen Garman and her friend Sally Ryan following Epstein's death in 1959 and given in 1972. The Garman Ryan collection has itself stimulated the continuing collection of recent work, and there is a collection of largely 19th century material.
Display Overview
The thematic arrangement of the Garman Ryan collection contrasts with rooms devoted to recent art and with extensive temporary exhibition spaces.
