Viewing the collection
The European Documentation Centre (EDC) is located on the ground floor of the European Resource Centre (ERC) in the European Research Institute (ERI). It is open during European Resource Centre opening hours. However if you would like assistance, please visit between 0900-1700 Monday-Friday when staff will be available to help you. Ask for help at the enquiry desk on the lower floor of the European Resource Centre tel: 0121 414 3614 (43614 on campus)

If you have no connection with the University, but are over 16, you will be able to gain free access on five days within a 12 month period. You will need to bring suitable identification (eg driver's licence, bank card, etc) on each visit, and you will be required to fill in a visitor registration form. Please note that no admission will be granted without identification. On each visit, you must arrive at a time when the Reception and Information Desk is staffed in order to be issued with a Visitor Pass. Re-entry to the Library or resource centre on the day that the pass is issued will only be possible when the Reception and Information Desk is staffed. If you subsequently obtain a Special Collections reader's card you will be able to enter the Main Library whenever the Special Collections Department is open. Please show your Special Collections card to gain access.

Collections Overview
Extensive collections of Russian and East European books, periodicals, microfilms, posters and maps formerly housed in the Baykov Library, together with a range of other Information Services collections, providing coverage of the whole of Europe, with a strong social sciences emphasis. These latter collections are the European Documentation Centre (EDC) and the German Documentation Centre (GDC) consisting of the stock of the Institute for German Studies (IGS) library. Collection includes a Language and Media Resource Centre consisting of Over 2000 videos/DVDs of foreign language film and TV recordings, an extensive collection in French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish, but also some material in other languages, Foreign language grammar textbooks and language self-teaching manuals.
