Overview of collections

The mission of the museum is to collect, preserve and interpret the agricultural history of Kent and make it accessible to the public. The collection is an excellent one, and numbers in the region of 1,000 objects. It reflects the agriculture of the area comprehensively, with special emphasis on hop growing.

Overview of how collections are displayed

The historic group of buildings forming the museum consist of Court Lodge farmhouse, with its medieval moated site, oast house dated 1815 and a 14th century aisled barn with a crown post roof. The barn has housed the major part of the agricultural collection for 40 years. Themes covered in the displays include: ploughs; seed sowing; harvesting; domestic life; processing; hops; the cooling floor; barrel making and butter making.
