Overview of collections

Over 300 Lancashire looms and associated preparatory machinery, operated by a 500 hp steam engine 'Peace', with 14 ft flywheel, plus other weaving machinery used to produce more complex work. The collections at the museum are Designated as part of a group that also comprises collections at Higher Mill and the Museum of the Lancashire Textile Industries.

Overview of how collections are displayed

This museum is one of the three working mills operated by Lancashire County Museum Service and is a working steam powered mill demonstrating weaving techniques. Visitors can view the boiler room and watch the stoker feed the Lancashire Boiler before entering the weaving shed where simple textiles are woven from cotton yarn that has been made at the Helmshore Mills.
