Overview of collections

The museum aims to collect and preserve material associated with the history and development of the Greater Manchester trams. It holds collections of restored tramcars, associated objects and working models ranging from the introduction of horse-drawn tramcars in 1877 to present day trams.

Overview of how collections are displayed

In addition to the operating trams, visitors can visit the tram depot and see restoration work in progress on the 19th century Manchester horse tramcar, together with displays of associated objects and photographs.

Trams include the Hull 96 - built in 1901 as a double-decker but operated from 1933 as a single deck passenger car and the Manchester 765 - a 'California' type single-decker built in 1914.
