Overview of collections
The 'National Collection of Modern Art in the North of England' is housed at Tate Liverpool, which also serves as the largest gallery of modern and contemporary art outside London. The collections are drawn from the Tate's main holdings of 60,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, prints, photographs, video, film, and works in other media that represent British art from 1600 to the present day and international art from the 20th century to present. The Museum houses displays by twentieth century British and foreign artists from the permanent collection of modern and contemporary art exhibitions. Themes include photography, printmaking, video, performance and installation art, painting and sculpture. International modern art by artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Derain, Cézanne, Mondrian, Magritte, Dalí, Giacometti, Dubuffet, Bacon, Rothko, Duchamp, Epstein, Stanley Spencer, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon. David Hockney, Warhol, Beuys, Anthony Caro, Jackson Pollock and Stanley Spencer. Contemporary works in all media include those by leading British and international artists such as Freud, Richter, Hamilton, Horn, Hirst and Whiteread.
