Overview of collections

The museum holds the core collections for Manx National Heritage, which are also on display at the numerous other museum sites. The large and wide-ranging collections include themes that illustrate the natural history and geology of the island, archaeology from Mesolithic to 16th century and social history from the 17h century to present day, fine and decorative art, costume and textiles, numismatics, arms and armaments, oral history, photographs, documents and books.

Overview of how collections are displayed

The museum provides an introduction to the 'Story of Mann', which is a linking theme for the many heritage sites based across the island. The award winning displays present a range of themes, including a film presentation of Manx history. The museum includes the National Art Gallery, with examples of work by famous Manx artists and also the National Archive and Reference Library.
