Overview of collections

Collection of WW1 medical notes from the Queen's Hospital, Sidcup, including a series of 99 watercolours depicting facial injury. Some 2500 files contain a number of operative diagrams drawn by Henry TONKS, Daryl LINDSAY, Herbert Robert COLE and Sidney HORNSWICK. The watercolours are largely unattributed, with 3 signed by Lindsay and about 20 by Cole (who later painted in his native New Zealand under the name Rix Carlton). In addition the collection contains copies of 22 facial casts from the collection in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

The notes contain a substantial number of photographs - probably around 10-20,000 - of stages in the surgical progress of the patients. These are quarter-plate images and were taken under the direction of, or by Sidney WALLBRIDGE
