Overview of how collections are displayed

The ARC will let you become an archaeological detective by finding out how archaeologists use evidence from excavations to piece together York's past. There are lots of finds to handle including 1000-year-old bones, pottery, shells and leather. Also a 'Sensory Garden' designed with sound bites and artefacts and plants that were traditionally used for wooing a sweetheart to warding off the plague! Linked with the BBC Series of the same name, The Blood of the Vikings examines the mystery of the Riccall Skeletons discovered in fields by the banks of the River Ouse at Riccall, near York and suggests they are part of the vanquished Viking Army fleeing England following their defeat at Stamford Bridge in 1066.
